Our founding

The Clemson University - Center for Agricultural Technology (CU-CAT) came into existence in February 2021, following the visionary decision of the Clemson Board of Trustees. This strategic move was driven by a commitment to fostering innovation and collaboration between academia and industry, with a singular focus on enhancing support for South Carolina farmers and agribusinesses.

Purposeful Collaboration for Agricultural Advancement

At its core, CU-CAT was established with the deliberate intention of fostering strong ties with industry partners. The goal is to create a dynamic hub where academia and the agricultural sector converge, working hand-in-hand to address challenges and explore cutting-edge solutions. This collaborative approach ensures that the knowledge generated within the center translates into tangible benefits for South Carolina's farming community.

Endorsement by the South Carolina State Legislature

Recognizing the pivotal role CU-CAT could play in the state's agricultural landscape, the South Carolina State Legislature extended its support by granting a recurring operating fund. This financial backing is instrumental in empowering our mission.
